"Our daughter Lottie had no words at 23 months and we were really concerned about her. Maike was able to see her for an assessment promptly and really reassured us. We had some follow-up therapy sessions where we have learnt strategies to encourage Lottie's language development. We are now implementing a home programme at the moment and Maike is regularly reviewing Lottie's progress." (Parents of Lottie, age 2, High Wycombe).
“My daughter, Ella, was having difficulties making the sounds 'f', 's', 'k' and 'g'. Her speech was hard for us to understand and her difficulties were affecting her phonics work at school and her interactions with her playmates. Maike's input was extremely valuable and the improvement in her speech was rapid. She has really increased in confidence and her sounding out in school has greatly improved." (Mum of Ella, age 5, Princes Risborough)
"Maike gave our son Palin PCI therapy when he developed a severe stammer. He was becoming anxious about his stammer and we were really worried. Maike worked with our family and his pre-school to change aspects of his environment to help us reduce his stammering. His stammer disappeared and we feel that we have learnt good techniques that we can implement if his speech becomes 'bumpy' again." (Mum of Ben, age 4, Chinnor)
"We had some concerns about my daughters speech development, and a while after she started school, her teacher expressed similar concerns. We were told that a referral through the school to a speech therapist was likely to take a few months, so we decided that whilst waiting for that we would take her to see somebody privately. We first attended an assessment session, where Maike identified the areas of her speech that she needed help with. It is no exaggeration to say that my daughter absolutely loved this 1st session! Maike made it all seem like a game and kept her completely amused. Maike advised that my daughter would benefit form a number of speech therapy sessions with her. My daughter literally could not wait to go each week! In the end we had 6 sessions & my daughter made phenomenal progress. Maike was so good at identifying what she was doing wrong with forming her sounds & gave her little ‘tricks’ to help her to recognise and make the sounds correctly - a wiggle of the finger for ‘s’ sounds and bunny teeth for ‘f’ etc. It really made the world of difference. My daughter had always got rather cross with us if we tried to encourage her to try to make her sounds correctly, but with Maike, it was a fun activity which she really enjoyed and she tried so hard to be a ‘star pupil’! By the time the speech therapist saw her at school, she had made so much progress with Maike, that she was signed off. We couldn’t have been happier with the help that Maike gave us & I would not hesitate to recommend her. (Mum of Poppy, aged 6, Haddenham)."
